My Youth Team In Season 1

this is my first youth team and it was together for season 1 and 2 and during this time i won the AFA under 21s League and cup

here is my GK who was WC before i even touched him and he has been improving steadily ever since i picked him in my initial squad

here are my LB and RB they both have decent pace and have great Average Ratings at Youth level. i picked amiran sanaia on a free agent after season 1 without JP and he was a revelation adding depth to my youth squad

here is a great RB who performs well in seniors as well as youth. not to long ago i had offers of over 3M and he had a senior average rating of 7 and 7.42 in youth

here was one of the best youth defensive partnership in saunders

he scored lots of goals from corners and the edge of the box with his great long shots and can play DM competently when injuries stacked up.

here is his defensive partner and was one of the reasons why i did the AFA Youth Double in season 2.

this guy did ok but didnt exactly shine which is why once he got too old for the youth team i shipped him out for a decent fee and also got rid of his wage from the wage bill

this guy was alot better on the right wing but at the point he got too old i decided to not use wingers in my seniors so i also got rid of him for a midest price.

heres is my wngine room, this guy was a machine when he was in my youth team but could never make a diffrence in my seniors which led me too selling him for 1.5M half a season after he was too old for the under 21s

this guy in my opinion is why you should start a youth team. he was decent for seniors and excellent for youth and is one of the few players who made the grade. he is still playing for my seniors too this day with a great average and chips in with a few games as well. it is easy to see why many people want a successful youth team.

when i first got this guy he wasnt nearly as fast but could still finish like no other. he is by far the best and most fun youth i have ever produced in saunders. his strike partner was more pacey but after a while he caught up.

at the start of the GW this guy was an absolute speed demon, it seems he isnt as fast anymore because the other players i play agianst seem to have caught up so they can at least catch this guy. he didnt have great finishing but he was so fast that he could go straight past the GK and score a few goals

Well that is my report on my first youth team in Saunders hope you enjoyed it and hope you stay tuned to yourfml.com the best unofficial place for FML

TalkSport Gameworld Launched

Sports Interactive have announced a new Gameworld is due to be launched with TalkSport.

The gameworld which is to be called Talkspot will be a temp gameworld with 1,000 managers in for a four week period.

This is a great bit of PR Marketing as the TalkSport listerners are exactly the type of people FML is aimed towards.

I know a couple of the Mods who are going to be working be in that Gameworld and Im sure they will be giving it thier all to make sure "TalkSport" runs like a dream and gets more people signing up to FML.

It would appear that SI/SEGA are really starting to get the PR bandwagon moving in the right direction now that we are in the start of the Hard Launch phase of Football Manager Live.

With pre orders being taken in the shops of the Boxed verision it looks like FML is really starting to show signs that it can really fill and empty gap in the Online Gaming Market.

FML Youth Development part 2

Hi guys, sorry the second part is a little later than I promised, although they say all good things come to those who wait! That is, if you consider this a good thing of course!

Anyway, enough jabbering. Part 2 will be about the young midfielders and their progress as well as a young striker who's developing well.

As before, I cannot stress that I actually started with some of these in my initial squad and bought in a lot of the others. I have had a distinct advantage with being able to choose who I want, which has changed with the recent update.

First midfielder I want to talk about is my central midfielder, Adrien. He was my first buy, shortly after getting my squad together and I've not looked back since. He's been instrumental in helping me get the XFA Division 1A title last season. He starts at just 19 years old.

He cost me £150k, with Transfer Negotiation 3 (a skill that reduced the acquisition fee you pay for free players or contract expiring players). When I got him originally, he was instantly in my first team squad. He usually ends up with around the same amount of goals as my striker.

Sherman Cardenas is my second central midfielder that I use on a regular basis. He starts off at just 19 years old. Earlier on in my FML Clough Gameworld Managerial career, I played him on the left wing (He's a natural (A)ML and (A)MC.), and he performed well there. But I moved him into the central midfield and he's gone from strength to strength. Currently my penalty taker, as I have nobody better. He, alongside Adrien, scores around the same amount of goals as my striker. At the end of last season, my striker and my two central mids were on a level par with each other for goals. They're also the future of my club, and will probably be my midfield for the next 5 seasons.

A special mention goes out to this Charlton youth player, Jonjo Shelvey. When I signed him, he was only 16, now he's 18 and is pushing for a place in my first team squad. Right now he's a bench warmer, but pretty soon he'll be forming an essential part of my team. His reputation rose all the way to 3.5* recently.

He will, no doubt, become a fantastic central mid in the foreseeable future. Right now he's a bench warmer for the first team and a regular for the U21's. I started with him and, I believe, he only cost me £20k at the start of the Gameworld.

I used to have this player, Emmanuel Sarki. The Chelsea youngster is a great right winger. He has bags of pace and acceleration, he's also a good crosser and dribbler of the ball. He has lots of technique, and this was even before any real training took place. He starts of at just 20 years old and is an excellent prospect.

He would be a great first team right winger, even when he starts off. He's a natural AMR but can play as a Wingback, a Midfield Central, a Defensive Mid or Right Midfielder. He starts off at just 20 years old.

The Arsenal Left Winger and Left Wingback Armand Traore is a great prospect to have if you could afford to get him. I was lucky to get him when the manager who previously had him was in need of money. Starts of at just 18 years old.

Starts off good enough to be in the first team, and he developed into a really pacey winger for me. His natural position is ML, but he can play anywhere on the left side. Starts off with bags of pace and acceleration and he will keep improving. Probably one of the best young left midfielders/wingers you could get.

Up front, I have the Manchester United starlet Danny Welbeck. When you start in a new Gameworld, he is only 18 years of age. Right now, he's only 20 years old and he's my first team striker. He starts off with a lot of pace and acceleration, with a lot of Technique and Dribbling for someone so young. Development wise, he's gone up to 20 pace and will soon hit 20 acceleration. That is fantastic for someone who's only 20 years of age! He will definitely be a star striker for the foreseeable future.

This is my substitute striker, Pablo Ochoa. He starts off at just 17 years old and he has some fantastic attributes for someone so young. Currently he's only 19 and he's a serious contender to replace Welbeck if he keeps developing well. For me, he plays as a senior substitute and usually comes on when Welbeck isn't on form. He starts when Welbeck is injured (he rarely gets suspended for me) and he always performs well.

Well that's a basic starting lineup of 12 players (11 starters plus 1 sub), most of whom are on my squad. Only real reason most of them come from my squad is because I chose to start with youths right from the off. Plus, having some knowledge on how they developed and how well they play, I can use this information to go into more detail than I normally would on the players in question.

Next post will probably be a few more lesser-known youth players. Also if you want to see profiles of certain youths a few seasons in, feel free to leave a comment on the player you want to see and I'll see if I can get a screenshot of their profile posted up here.

Ov Collyer on the way a team is now assigned a Squad

Ov Collyer today had the following to say in respect of the way a team is now assigned a squad of players when they join a Gameworld.

"All GWs start with a database of 50,000 players.
Of these, 1100 x 18 = 19,800 players are assigned to balanced 18-man preselected squads. At this stage these squads are not yet assigned to clubs.
As clubs sign-up to the GW, a club is chosen from the 1100 reserved ones, and then 'tuned' according to the manager's nationality/location. This involves swapping players from the chosen squad with players from another unchosen suqad to try and end up with more players of your nationality/location/favourite club (that is why it reserves 1100, instead of 1000 - so that even if the 1000th team joins, it still has 100 more squads to swap with to find players familiar to you).
When you first sign-in, your chosen squad is activated, meaning the players all sign 24 hour provisional contracts as you are used to.
All players assigned to preselected squads (whether assigned to a club or not) are locked and unavailable to any other club.
When the first season starts (7 days after GW launch) all unclaimed preselected squads are disbanded (so a club joining after this point won't be given one), but the players are only unlocked gradually over the course of the first season, rather than in one go.
By the end of season one, no players are locked.
Finally, the other change from beta, is that scouting skills *do not* come into it during initial squad selection, whereas they used to. So if you decide to change your preselected squad, you have full visibility of all other players in the database that haven't yet been chosen (either in a preselected squad, or manually by another user.)

The reason this was changed was because otherwise, what with 19,800 players + invisible (from scouting) players locked, it was getting a bit restrictive.
Once you confirm your squad (whether its a preselected one, your own, or a mixture) then the players sign on full contracts and from that point on its business as normal - scouting skills will limit your visibility of the players etc.
What the system aims to do:- give everyone a fair chance. You don't need to arrive on the dot when a GW launch.
Indeed this system was designed for the hard launch of the game when people will be going out and buying a boxed copy, returning home and expecting a GW to be waiting for them to choose to join. The GW launch date will perhaps be a lower-key thing.- provide flexibility.

If you don't want any players, or some players from your preselected squad, you are free to throw them away and replace them with anyone else unclaimed.- stimulate the early transfer market.

Maybe you have managed to be assigned a player that someone else badly wants - no problem, with the transfer rules of 1.1, you can sell/swap from your initial squad right away (although no cheeky short-term profiteering allowed )

Hope this clears up every last bit of detail!"

Thanks for clearing that up Ov :)

HOW TO : Save your best Clips

Here is a quick video how to save your fave clips in FML.

HOW TO : Save your best Clips

Here is a quick video how to save your fave clips in FML.

FAve Clip Videos

A look at FML youth development.

Hi guys. I'm Shaun Meakin, manager of The Moles in Gameworld Clough. I've been appointed by Martin White to be your scout and tell you about some of the youths that you can buy in FML. I would like to point out that, in Gameworld Clough, we are currently entering into our third season, so most youths that are posted have had a lot of time to develop into the quality that they are currently. Also, we had a distinct advantage with being able to pick our squad individually from the start.

But enough about the boring stuff, i'm sure you only came here to see what good youths look like! Well you certainly won't be disappointed. Now I could harp on about how good Messi, Ronaldo, Aguero, Bojan and Pato are, but I find it best to talk about players that aren't as well-known.

Firstly, because the lesser known players are usually the ones left out in the race to sign the guranteed superstars. Secondly, usually because they're a damn sight cheaper than the others but are capable of being just as good. And finally, usually because it's that much more satifying getting someone who people don't believe to be good and turning him into the next hot prospect.

Right, on with the actual players. I think for now, an initial squad of 11 youths would be good. I'm going to base my choices on the ever-popular 4-5-1 formation, instead of a standard 4-4-2 formation as, in FML at least, 4-5-1 is the new 4-4-2.

So we'll start with the most important position, between the posts. You hate them when they make a blunder, you love them when they save that important last penalty in a shoot-out. Yes, it's the keeper.

Traditionally, I look for keepers with decent agility, balance and jumping. And then having a good set of keeping skills. As youth keepers usually don't have very good physicals, I usually look for ones with good Technicals. Reflexes is a must, so is Handling. One on Ones, Communication, Aerial Ability and Commanding Area come next in my "Priority" list for Technicals. A good example of a good keeper would be Preston Edwards:

I signed him in my initial squad, he has been improving steadily throughout the season. As a result of the update, though, he's got a massive boost because there was a small error with players not getting trained properly. He's now my starting keeper and i've sold off every spare keeper as I intend to let him develop further before I think about whether I want to keep him permanently. As I said earlier, I got to pick my squad and he was an initial pick, also note that we are currently 3 seasons in to Clough, so he won't appear like this if you are starting in a new gameworld. Just thought I should point that out again.

Ok. Next up is the right back. I started out with a fairly poor right back, as my initial choices were snapped up. I've made do with some pretty poor signings at right back and it's always been my weakest position.

Right now, I have an amazing young right back, his name is Fagner (I'll admit, I giggled a little when I first heard it too). As you can see, he's got bags of pace so he's able to track back effectively. He's a bit weak on the technical front, hoping the new update might soon amend that though. He's got 13 crossing for me, which is very good for a wing back. Great teamwork/work rate as well, so he's not shy of getting stuck in for the team. Really low wages as well which means you can keep him for a long time without needing to sell him. I signed him when he was 19, he looked similar to what he does currently except he had less pace and a lot less mental attributes.

Next position is the other wingback, the left side. I must admit, i'd never really heard of my left back before, but I'm certainly glad I got him now. His name is Nazifi Inuwa, and he was also 19 when I signed him for my squad. He's been developing in a similar way to Fagner. He's on lower wages but, despite what the picture shows, he's developing nicely.

Word of caution though, expect your wing-backs to be suspended a LOT. Wing-backs seem to get a lot of needless yellow/red cards. Probably best to get a backup player for each side, usually a Regen.

Now we're looking at the heart of the defence. The central defenders. My oldest DC is actually my best one, he's only 23 (starts off at the age of 20, that's why he's mentioned). My first, and main defender is Patricio Araujo.

The green arrows, again as I've mentioned, are from the update we recently had. He wasn't developing much before that but now he's probably going to develop a lot over the coming season. I have judging potential 4, and you can see he's marked down as a 5* potential for me. So the minimum he could possibly be would be a 4* potential. He is my captain, and he is a fantastic leader with a 20 stat in Influence.

He's a very pacey defender, and strong. One of my best players, if I'm honest, with a really low wage. No doubt he'd be a top defender for years to come.

Krystian Pearce is my other central defender, he's been with me from the start of my Gameworld. He's developed mostly in the mentals, for me. Again, down to a small thing that has been rectified with the update. He should flourish soon.

He's only just broke into my first team because of this, although i'm certain if he stays in my first team he will start to play well and develop well because of it. He's another one of my players who is on a low wage. He has good physical attributes (namely pace, strength and jumping) and once his technicals develop, I have no doubt he will prove a formidable player alongside Araujo.

I think that's it, for now. I'll probably post the rest sometime soon. Probably later on in the day when it's not early in the morning! I just want to leave with a quick note though.

The attributes and the potential of the players that I've talked about above will vary, slightly, in different gameworlds. So it's always best to check their attributes before you commit to anything. Also, be aware that players might not develop in exactly the same way for you as they have for someone else. And lastly, you won't be able to all of the good youth players at the start of the Gameworld. I got a fair few of them, mainly because I could hand pick. Don't expect to be able to sign these players for a youth squad, you'll most likely be looking at even lesser known players for forming a youth squad. And later on, regens become a big part of a Gameworld and will slowly start to dominate your youth squad (and eventually seniors, if you stay for that long!)

Hope these starting players and tips are helpful to you. I'll be sure to post up my second part with the midfielders and my striker.

Making the most of Learning

The short version: If you plan to learn more than one skill in a category to level 5 you should take the learning skill for that category to level 5 first. Once you have allocated 1.68m skill points to a category you will have made up the skill points lost while studying the relevant learning skill. Any further skills invested in that category put you ahead of where you would be without the skill rate boost.

The long version:

The FML skill system provides booster skills that do not provide any direct benefit, but instead boost the rate at which you learn other skills. This post is my attempt to persuade you to invest in these skills, because looking around my own gameworld people are missing out on the benefits of these skills because there is a general belief that beyond the first few levels of each they are "not worth it".

An Example: I want to be a top coach in FML. To that end I plan to learn the following skills, which are probably the minimum before anyone would consider you a coach of any repute:
  • Coaching level 5 (1'180'000 skill points)
  • First Team Coaching level 4 (180'000 skill points)
  • Youth Team Coaching level 4 (180'000 skill points)
  • Mental Coaching level 4 (180'000 skill points)
  • Technical Coaching level 4 (180'000 skill points)
  • Physical Coaching level 4 (180'000 skill points)
  • Set Piece Coaching level 4 (180'000 skill points)
  • Goalkeeper Coaching level 4 (180'000 skill points)
That is a total investment of 2'440'000 skill points. The basic learning rate is 1500 points/hour, which means it will take me a minimum of 67 days, 18 hrs and 40 minutes to learn these skills assuming I never have any time without a skill in progress.

Now let's look at the Coaching Badge skill, at level 5 you will gain a 25% boost learning for all Coaching skills. If I were to learn Coaching Badge level 5 before I begun learning my core coaching skills the total time it would take me to achieve my goal (including the time it takes to learn the Coaching Badge skill would be 62 days, 19 hrs and 59 mins. I've gained a week's worth of additional skills by taking the Coaching Badge.

On to the important question; at what point does a learinng skill break even; ie. how long after completing Learning skill x will it take me to catch up to other managers that take a short term view of the game. Answer; not as long as you probably think.

The true cost of learning skills

All learning skills have the same direct cost to learn:
  • Level 1 = 10'000 skill points (6 hours, 40 mins)
  • Level 2 = 20'000 skill points (13 hrs 20 mins)
  • Level 3 = 40'000 skill points (1 days 2 hrs 40 mins)
  • Level 4 = 80'000 skill points (2 days 5 hrs 20 mins)
  • Level 5 = 160'000 skill points (4 days 10 hrs 40 mins)
To work out when we break even we need to deduce how many points are lost during the time we study the learning skill, bear in mind that the rate at which you learn skill points goes up as each level of the learning skill is completed, making each subsequent level more "expensive". This is the true cost of studying a learning skill:
  • Level 1 = 6 hours, 40 mins * 1500 skill points/hour = 10000 skill points "lost"
  • Level 2 = 13 hrs 20 mins * 1575 skill points/hour = 21000 skill points "lost"
  • Level 3 = 1 days 2 hrs 40 mins * 1650 skill points/hour = 44000 skill points "lost"
  • Level 4 = 2 days 5 hrs 20 mins * 1725 skill points/hour = 69000 skill points "lost"
  • Level 5 = 4 days 10 hrs 40 mins * 1800 skill points/hour = 192000 skill points "lost"
e.g. whilst you are studying your level 5 Coaching Badge at 1500 points per hour(pph) you could have earned 192'000 points on other Coaching skills, at a rate of 1800 pph; had you stopped at Level 4.

Skill point break even & profit

Now we know the cost of the learning badges let's look at how long it will take to recoup that cost and start making a skill point profit. Here I will focus on the example where the manager studies the learning skills in advance of learning the core skills in that area, because this is the only way a sensible manager would approach his skill learning. Adding up the skill point cost for each level gives us the total points cost to learn from nothing to that level of the skill; from which we can determine how long it will take to break even, and start to make a skill point profit.
  • Level 1 = 10'000 skill points
  • Level 2 = 31'000 skill points
  • Level 3 = 75'000 skill points
  • Level 4 = 144'000 skill points
  • Level 5 = 336'000 skill points
So, the total true cost of learning Coaching Badge level 1 to 5 was 336'000 skill points. I now have a learning rate of 1875 points per hour which means that every hour I repay 375 points towards that cost.

In 37 days and 8 hours I have replayed that 336'000 skill points, having invested a total of 1'680'000 skill points in Coaching skills in the process. Any further learning of the Coaching skills can be considered profit on my initial investment of 336'000 skill points to achieve Coaching Badge level 5.

It will not always be justifiable to study a learning skill up to level 5. Here are the break even points for all levels.
  • Level 1 = 210'000 skill points (6 days @ 1575/hour)
  • Level 2 = 341'000 skill points (9 days @ 1650/hour)
  • Level 3 = 575'000 skill points (14 days @ 1725/hour)
  • Level 4 = 864'000 skill points (30 days @ 1800/hour)
  • Level 5 = 1'680'000 skill points (38 days @ 1875/hour)
Using this table is it easy to see when you should and should not invest in the Learning skills.

Finally, an example of what not to do: You have studied Coaching Badge level 1,2,3 and 4 at the start of your careeer and then invest the 864'000 points (20 days) in Coaching skills to break even. If you then train up to Coaching Badge level 5, you will need to invest a further 4'800'000 skill points (approx 107 days worth) in new coaching skills to make up the 192'000 skill point loss before you will see any skill profit.

If you've read all that and stayed awake then you'll probably be interested in taking a peek at my Skill Planner, soon to be bolstered by the arrivial Stadium planning functions.

Top 11 Greatest Players Vote Ends

Best Player Of All Time Vote

Top 11 Greatest Players Vote Ends

Best Player Of All Time Vote

The vote ended and Maradona won with 17 votes now I'm not 1 to mention the hand of god oops but i can forgive him that as the 2ND goal against England was pure quality. Zizou came 2ND with 12 votes just pushing the legend Pele into third on 11 quite surprising really but i suppose a sign of the times with very little Internet users having seen a lot of Pele playing.

Now I'm sure most know this but in the 50's Di Stefano was regarded as the best player ever that was playing the game and I'm sure if he ever played at international level in world cups he would easily gave these a run for there money.

I'm sure you want to know who i voted for ........ Bobby Moore as a defender he would never get the recognition a striker gets but knowing what he went through in life and what everyone as ever wrote about him and to play in a way that stood head and shoulders above the rest i cant think of a better player or man I'd want lifting the world cup for England.
